Yankton Boys Fall To Watertown, JV Boys Split Weekend Set

WATERTOWN — Watertown scored six first-period goals on the way to a 10-1 victory over Yankton in boys’ varsity hockey action on Saturday.

Patrick Merrigan had four goals and three assists for Watertown. Jarett Spiering had two goals and three assists. Samuel Sjoberg had two goals and two assists in the win.

For Yankton, Austin Barger scored the lone goal off a pass from Charles Stephenson.

Robert Luken, Jr., stopped nine shots in goal for Watertown. Tyler Wenande made 24 saves for Yankton.

Yankton hosts Mitchell on Friday, Jan. 2.

JV Boys

Sioux Center 7, Yankton 2

Seven different players scored goals to lead Sioux Center past Yankton 7-2 in JV boys’ hockey action on Sunday.

Dan Vrugdenill, Jacob Vander Plaats and Keaton DeJong each had a goal and two assists for Sioux Center.

For Yankton, Colby Benson scored both goals. Cody List and Mitchell Vavra added assists.

Zach Sassman stopped 24 shots for Sioux Center. Cristian Slate made 18 saves for Yankton.

Yankton hosts Sioux Falls on Saturday. Start time is 5 p.m.

Yankton 6, Watertown 5, OT

WATERTOWN — Yankton’s Oakley Palmer scored 10 seconds into overtime to lift the Bucks to a 6-5 victory over Watertown in JV boys’ hockey action on Saturday.

Steven Tacke’s power play goal at the 13:41 mark of the third period tied the game for Yankton.

Treyton Bakke scored two goals, and Nathan Eichacker had a goal and an assist for Yankton. Travis Munyer, Palmer and Tacke scored the other goals. Oliver Kotalik recorded two assists in the win.

Alex Ortmeier had three goals and an assist for Watertown.

Cristian Slate made 18 saves in the win. Niel Busch made 13 saves for Watertown.

JV Girls

Sioux Falls 3, Yankton 2

SIOUX FALLS — Katie Vockler scored two goals, and Jaden Flanagan had a goal and assist to lead Sioux Falls past Yankton in JV girls’ hockey action on Saturday.

Abby Weber had a goal and an assist for Yankton. Hannah Johnson scored the other Miracle goal.

Ava Krabbenhoft made 22 saves in goal for Sioux Falls. Renee Cross stopped 13 shots for Yankton.

Yankton hosts the rematch with Sioux Falls on Jan. 9.

Bantam

Yankton 4, Rushmore 2

Four different players scored to lead Yankton past Rushmore 4-2 in bantam hockey action on Sunday at Alcoa Arena.

Dillon Barger had a goal and two assists, and Jack Schoenfelder had a goal and an assist to lead Yankton. Isaac Klimisch and Jace Kapla added a goal each in the victory.

Lewis Hall had both Rushmore goals.

Caleb List made 23 saves in goal for Yankton. Brice Kilpatrick stopped 21 shots for Rushmore.

Yankton hosts a doubleheader with Brookings on Jan. 17.

Yankton 7-7, Rushmore 1-6

Yankton scored a pair of victories over Rushmore, 7-1 and 7-6, in bantam hockey action on Saturday.

In the opener, Dillon Barger and James Bouska each had two goals, and Jack Schoenfelder had a goal and two assists to lead the way. Thomas Stewart had a goal and an assist. Jaxson Erickson also scored a goal. Kyle Withrow, Isaac Nedved, Jace Kapla, Sean Garcia and Zachary Rohde had assists in the win.

Lewis Hall scored for Rushmore.

Caleb List made 16 saves in goal in the victory. Brice Kilpatrick stopped 24 shots for Rushmore.

In the nightcap, Kapla had four goals and two assists, and Schoenfelder had two goals and an assist to lead Yankton. Erickson added a goal. Barger, Kyle Withrow, Isaac Klimisch and Rohde had assists.

Hall scored four goals, and Matthew Albrecht had two goals and an assist for Rushmore.

Nedved and Kilpatrick each had 12 saves.

Peewee

C — Rushmore 7, Yankton 1

Gunnar Benson scored two goals to lead Rushmore past Yankton 7-1 in Peewee ‘C’ hockey action on Sunday at Alcoa Arena.

Jonathan Wenisch scored the Yankton goal, converting a pass from Austin Wagner.

Brady DeVries made 10 saves for Rushmore. Christopher Sternhagen had 55 saves for Yankton.

Yankton hosts Oahe Jan. 17 and 18.

C — Rushmore 4, Yankton 2

Four different players scored goals as Rushmore downed Yankton 4-2 in Peewee ‘C’ hockey action on Saturday at Alcoa Arena.

Austin Wagner and Eli Kapla scored for Yankton.

Brady DeVries made 12 saves in goal for Rushmore. Christopher Sternhagen stopped 37 shots.

Squirts

Mitchell Tourn.

MITCHELL — The Yankton Miracle went 3-0 in a squirt level hockey tournament on Saturday in Mitchell.

Lainie Keller preserved the shutout in goal as Yankton beat Mitchell Silver 7-0. Alex Reichert had three assists in the win.

Dawson Vellek scored a hat trick in a 7-5 Yankton victory over Sioux Falls ‘C.’

Yankton beat Mitchell Navy 9-3 behind hat tricks from Cole Pedersen and Mason Roesler. Alex Nockles had three assists.
