REGISTRATION - Please read carefully before registering with YAIA as some things have changed from last year

Hello and Welcome to the Yankton Area Ice Association.

If you are a returning member, please log in to NGIN with your previous username and password so that we do not have multiple accounts for the same family. If you cannot remember your login username, please get in touch with the registrar or webmaster, and they will give it to you. You will then have to retrieve your password - we do not have access to passwords.

ALL RETURNING HOCKEY PLAYERS
MUST REGISTER BY AUGUST 15th, 2023
TO AVOID THE $50 LATE REGISTRATION FEE.

If you are a new member, WELCOME; please read this carefully to answer some important questions and make your registration process flow easily.

VOLUNTEERING

YAIA is a nonprofit, parent-run organization. To provide a quality program, we must rely on our parent members to help the association run smoothly. Each family with Mini-mites and above in hockey or Pre-Alpha and above in figure skating must work.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Volunteer duties include: concession stand, game day/performance
duties, cleaning, event help, etc. The DIBs system can be accessed via the website from the
main menu and the home page. Families can use the system to sign up for duties that work best
with their schedule. See the YAIA Handbook for a list of Volunteer Position descriptions and
position values, or click on the Volunteer Tab on the website. For consideration of credit for any
volunteer duty not listed, a request must be submitted to the Board for approval.

A Volunteer Commitment deposit check (post-dated 3/1/2024) is to be provided at Document Day. Players and skaters may not participate in activities until the deposit check has been
received. CREDITS ARE $20 EACH, and the total deposit depends on the level or age of the player(s)/skater(s) in the family. The deposit check is held until the end of the season and will be
shredded, as long as the volunteer commitment has been fulfilled. (You may request your
check is returned rather than shredded). Any family who does not fulfill their commitment will
have their check cashed after the April Board meeting. Volunteer credits may be earned from
April 1st to March 31st. Any extenuating hardship circumstances are evaluated on a case by case basis by the Board. Families receiving a scholarship who do not fulfill their volunteer
commitment will not be eligible for future scholarship consideration.

A volunteer deposit check (post-dated 3/1/2023) is required at "Equipment Night" (date to be determined). We will hold the post-dated check until the credits are fulfilled, and then we will shred your check.

These credits may be worked in the concession stand, helping with games, doing maintenance work on the building, helping with the equipment rental, and a variety of other jobs that must be done for us to keep our association one of the best in the state.

A list of jobs that earn credits is available under the Volunteer Tab. Points per task can be found in the YAIA Handbook. The points system is effective from April 1 to March 30.

Fundraising (formally known as "Calendars")

YAIA has one primary fundraiser in which all families are required to participate. Families may recoup their out-of-pocket fundraising fee by selling raffle tickets for $20 each. Raffle tickets are sold for a chance to win money in the YAIA DAILY RAFFLE DRAWING.  The fundraising fee is paid by check on Document Day, when raffle tickets are disbursed.

YAIA Daily Raffle Drawing format: Drawings are held from November 1st December 31st
(except Sundays). Completed raffle ticket stubs are returned to the red box in the locker room
hallway. Raffle ticket stubs will be drawn at random, and checks will be issued to the winners
on a weekly basis.

$50 prize awarded Monday Friday
$100 prize awarded for Saturdays
$250 prize for Thanksgiving and Christmas
$500 prize for New Year's Eve

Additional fundraising opportunities will occur at various times throughout the year. In order for
registration fees to remain among the lowest in the state, each family is strongly encouraged to
participate in additional fundraising opportunities.

First Year YAIA Family* $60 $120

DOCUMENT NIGHT

Document Night will be determined soon. You will be able to pick up your calendar raffle tickets at that time, as well as any equipment and gear needed for the season.

REGISTRATION SCHOLARSHIP

Limited funds are available from the United Way for scholarships for skaters who cannot otherwise afford to participate in ice sports. The application for the scholarship is not available at this time. DO NOT REGISTER UNTIL YOU ARE APPROVED OR DENIED. Applications must be submitted by July 15th to be considered. Applications submitted afterward will be considered if funds are available.

The Registration "Registration Information" is not currently available.

LEARN TO SKATE

LEARN TO SKATE REGISTRATION WILL OPEN SOON

Learn to Skate will be held twice weekly for two 6-week sessions (schedule to be determined soon). Skaters ages 4-12 are welcome to participate in Learn-to-Skate.  Whether you are interested in hockey, figure skating, or just learning to skate better, this class is for you.

The registration fee for each session is $20 and includes skates and helmets that may be borrowed from the rink. All skaters will be required to wear either a bike or a hockey helmet. An $80 equipment deposit is required for the participants borrowing gear. The deposit check will be held until the equipment is returned at the end of the session.

Upon completion of the class, skaters may choose to advance to Mini-Mite, Mite, or Squirt hockey (depending on age) or move into Pre Alpha Figure Skating. There will be another registration in December to move up if the instructors determine the youth is ready.

The Registration "Registration Information" is not currently available.

HOCKEY REGISTRATION

Please read carefully before registering with YAIA.

FEE INFORMATION

USA HOCKEY REGISTRATION

Each participant will pay the USA Hockey fee based on their birth year. The registration must be completed for all players and coaches. Participants will also pay any applicable Affiliate fee ($9 for SDAHA).

BIRTH CERTIFICATE

New hockey members will require a copy of your skater’s birth certificate. Please bring a photocopy with you to the hockey arena. There is a red box near the locker room at the arena where you can leave the copies.

Skaters cannot participate in practices or games if we do not have a copy of a birth certificate.

TOURNAMENT FEES

Mites or older may be attending out-of-town tournaments. Tournaments are voluntary, and are not required to participate in the program.

These tournaments charge the association a registration fee that must be reimbursed by each skater who attends the tournament. These fees are minimal for young skaters but increase as they advance and go to larger tournaments to compete. Please be aware that you will be asked to cover these fees later in the season if you decide to participate in a tournament.

Fees for the State Tournaments at the end of the season are covered by the association.

HOCKEY EQUIPMENT RENTAL

Rental equipment is available for anyone who needs equipment to play. There will be designated dates to check out gear. Please remember that everyone who volunteers for the association also has a job and other obligations, so please be considerate and plan on attending the scheduled equipment hand-out times.

PLAYING UP

Any player considering playing at a level higher than the date their birthdate allows is to register at the level their birthdate allows and submits a Team Select Request to the Head of Coaching for consideration.

Move-ups will be determined by team needs, not by skill alone. The player will be evaluated during team tryouts to determine if they can move up and what is best for the teams. The player will pay the additional fee for the next level if selected to move up.

FIGURE SKATE REGISTRATION

Please read carefully before registering with YAIA.

FEE INFORMATION

REGISTRATION FEES

Registration fees for skaters Pre-Alpha through Freestyle levels include additional ice time that may be utilized during the Figure Skating practice times. Times and dates are posted on the website under the Figure Skating tab. Registration fees include the additional $15 ISI Membership fee.

Skaters will be tested in the 2nd week of the season to determine if they are at the appropriate level. If they test higher than the registered level, they must pay the higher-level registration fee in full.

PLAYING UP

If a skater passes up from Learn-To-Skate to Pre-Alpha or if a skater passes up from Alpha to Beta mid-season, they will be required to pay the difference in cost prorated for the second half of the season. In addition, skaters moving up from Learn-To-Skate to Pre-Alpha will be required to complete volunteer work. Please check the handbook for volunteer requirements.

FIGURE SKATING EQUIPMENT RENTAL

Equipment, including skates and knee and butt pads, are available for rent. It is recommended that skaters in levels Beta and above wear both knee and butt pads. Rental fees are not included in the registration fees but may be paid during registration or equipment check-out days.

END-OF-YEAR PERFORMANCE FEES

All skaters participating in the second session are requested to participate in the end-of-season performance. There are no additional fees to participate in the end-of-year performance, except for the costume fees. Costume fees are due by January 31st. Performance practices will begin around February 1st.

COMPETITION FEES

Participating in competitions is strictly voluntary but is greatly encouraged. Competition registration fees are collected separately for each competition. These registration fees are due by the deadline of each competition and are based on the competition, level, and the number of events in which the skater registers. Skaters are responsible for all travel fees in conjunction with competitions.

Athletic Physicals

Anyone participating in athletics during the 2023-24 school year must meet the following criteria before they may begin practice:

     1. If a student will be in Grades 6, 8, 9,11 or 12 and participated in athletics in the 2022-2023 school year, a guardian and student must fill out the Recertification Form and email it to the YAIA Safety Coordinator: safety@yanktonice.org; or return the form to the team coordinator.

          * No one will be allowed to participate until this is on file.

     2. If the athlete will be in Grades 7 or 10, or has never participated in athletics in the Yankton School District/Yankton Area Ice Association, and plans to participate in the 2023-2024 school year, a guardian and student must:

              a. Complete the Preparticipation Physical Exam Form, and

              b. Have a physical taken at a licensed health care provider of your choice and have them fill out the physical part of the form.

          * This must be done before any participation begins.

Again, welcome to YAIA. We are excited to have new skaters and all our returning players! If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with anyone on the YAIA board or programs committee. We are here to answer any questions and ensure you have a great experience in the skating family!
