Yankton Figure Skating Coaches

Morgan Bain

Hello everyone! My name is Morgan Bain. I am currently a graduate student at USD, getting my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been skating since I was six, and I grew up competing for Blue Mound Figure Skating club. My favorite programs have always been artistic, dramatic and rhythmic programs. I loved to make people laugh with silly spot light entertainment and creative duets! I coached all levels in Luverne and Sioux Falls during high school. I graduated high school as a Freestyle 6 skater. I also adore synchronized skating. I was able to continue to pursue my passion for synchro on the CSB Skating Club Team at the College of Saint Benedict. I feel as though skating can teach us a lot about ourselves. Skating taught me discipline, creativity, commitment, confidence, and what it means to feel beautiful! Skating also brought me some of my closest friends and I am so excited to meet you all. I am available for private lessons. You can contact me at 1-605-951-3092

Eva Paulson

Hello, my name is Eva Paulson! I am currently a student at YHS. I have been a Yankton Figure Skater since 2012. I’ve been competing since I was 8 years old. I am currently working on Gold/Freestyle 7 in ISI, Pre-Silver Freeskate (Pre-Juvenile), and Pre-Gold Skating Skills (Junior Moves in the Field). Mitchell Figure Skating Club was my secondary club for four years, introducing me to USFSA. Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club is now my Primary club, where I continue to pursue both ISI and USFSA. I’ve coached a variety of classes in both Mitchell and Sioux Falls. I’ve had the privilege to attend skating camps to work with high level coaches such as Gracie Gold, Barb Yackel, Rosie Hansen, Rodrigo Menedez, Jason Dilworth, Max Aaron, Polina Edmunds, Mirai Nigasu, Philip Mills, Kim Ryan Lewis, Sheila Thelan, and many more! I’ve also attended several coaching clinics with Barb Yackel, Riley Block, Tasia Hillestad, and Jason Dilworth. My goal as a coach is to provide a fun, safe environment for skaters to grow in the sport they love, improve their technique and skill, while creating life-long friendships. Skating has been a huge part of my life. This sport has taught me patience, persistence, dedication, confidence, time management,  as well as reward for hard work. I aspire to make skating fun for everyone in hope that they will love skating as much as I do! I am not offering private lessons at this time as I am still focused on my own development!

Morgan Privett

My name is Morgan Privett. I graduated from Yankton High School in 2013 and I have skated at Yankton for 15+ years. I am a Freestyle 5 skater and a Gold level judge for ISI. I have been coaching at Yankton since 2013. I have two daughters, Vivien and Aspyn, who both skate in Yankton. I work full time at the National Field Archery Association.

I pride myself in the ability to always come up with creative moves to keep routines from becoming repetitive. I give private skating lessons for competition or to get specialized time to help your skater improve on elements and work towards their goals. Everyone always asks why I coach and the answer is simple. The ice has always been my other home where I feel free. I want to make sure everyone is offered the same experience to enjoy this amazing sport we love! My favorite part of skating is seeing a skater meet their goals and the smiles when they finally get the element they have been working on for weeks/months! My favorite saying is “Don’t look at the ice, it isn’t going anywhere”.

If you are interested in private lessons (winter or summer) please contact me at 605-661-5427 or mprivett@outlook.com.

Hello! My name is Johanna Starzl! I fell in love with skating my freshman year of high school after going to an open skate here in Yankton. Being a freshman in high school, I felt discouraged starting skating so late, but with the help of the amazing coaches here at YAIA, I was able to improve my skills, and 4 years later, I graduated from high school in Freestyle 3! This will now be my 5th year of skating and my first year of coaching. I’m so excited to share my love for skating with all of you! It is never too late to start doing what you love!
